Water Scarcity and Its Challenges
— By Sandip Guin
Kolkata, 11 December: Water scarcity has become a serious problem in many regions of the country, affecting millions of people. Rapid urbanization, population growth, and climate change have worsened the situation. The main causes include over-extraction of groundwater, inefficient water management, and pollution of rivers and lakes. Its effects are visible in frequent droughts, reduced crop yields, and health problems among communities. Experts warn that without immediate action, the crisis will intensify. Governments and NGOs are promoting rainwater harvesting, water recycling, awareness campaigns, and efficient water use. Individuals are encouraged to conserve water, adopt sustainable practices, and participate in local initiatives. Collective responsibility at personal, community, and governmental levels is essential. Only through joint efforts can water scarcity be addressed effectively, ensuring water security and a sustainable future for the country.
