Cyclone Dana Hits Odisha and West Bengal

Bhubaneswar/Kolkata, October 26, 2024: Cyclone Dana, a severe cyclonic storm with winds of 110 km/h, struck the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal from October 22–26. The storm caused widespread destruction, uprooting trees, damaging homes, and disrupting power and communication lines. Several people were reported dead or injured, and economic losses are estimated at $73.3 million. Authorities evacuated thousands from vulnerable areas, and rescue teams worked tirelessly to assist affected communities. Relief operations are ongoing, with officials urging residents to stay indoors and exercise caution as recovery efforts continue across the affected regions.
