1) Lord Buddha and the Bereaved Mother
Many years ago, during Buddha's time, there lived a poor woman along with only her son in a village. But tragedy struck her life as her son fell seriously ill and died soon after. She became very sad and went to Lord Buddha. She said, "Oh Lord, please give my son's life." and started to cry. Lord Buddha consoled her and said," my child, bring me a handful of mustard seeds from a house where death has not entered." She went from door to door but could not find any such house and became very sad. At last, she came back to Lord Buddha with broken heart. Lord Buddha advised her to be calm and have patience. He said, "Death is common to all living being. No one can escape it." She met with the stark reality and stopped her weeping.
Moral: Death is inescapable.
2) Lord Buddha and the Bereaved Mother
In the Buddha's time, a poor woman's son died. Grief-stricken, she pleaded with the Buddha to restore his life. He asked her for mustard seeds from a house untouched by death. Her search proved futile; no such house existed. Returning heartbroken, she understood the universality of death. The Buddha taught her acceptance. She realized death is inescapable and found peace.
Moral: Death is a part of life.
